Q&A

Are Players Registering By The Year They Are Born, Or By The Grade They Are In?

Players register by the grade they are in during that current season. For example, if a child is in 2nd grade during the spring 2025 season, that child registers for the 2nd grade division (see below for exception on playing up).

What Is The Minimum Age?

To play in PreK division, a child must be 3 years of age and older at the start of the 2025 fall season.

Can Players Play Up?

YES, Players can play up with the older grade above them. For example, a 2nd grader can play up with a 3rd grade team.

Can Players Play Down?

NO, Players cannot play down with the younger grade below them. For example, a 2nd grader cannot play down with a 1st grade team.

Can A Current Team Sign Up To Play Together?

YES. If your team plays in other local Rec programs, and wishes to join DYS as a team, that is allowed. Please refer above to the minimum and maximum number of players allowed on each team.

Can My Child Register To Play With Their Friends/Classmates?

Yes, Coaches need to first register their child, then have the other parents register their kids. The Coach needs to email us all of the kids first and last names, and their grade division so we can roster the kids together.

Can Players/Teams Create And Wear Their Own Customized Uniforms?

No, players and teams are only allowed to wear the Official DYS Uniform as required for practices and games.

Why Is There a Min and Max Number Of Players On a Team?

DYS encourages all kids the opportunity to play in their games, so creating a min and max number of players affords the kids more time on the field. BUT, DYS might need to adjust the max player on teams to ensure all kids have a team to play on, and to ensure there are enough teams created for games.

Can A Team Play Their Scheduled Game With Less Than 4 Players?

YES, teams can play with 3 Players rather than forfeiting, BUT, if a team has less than 3 players, the game is a forfeit and the opposing team gets the win.

OPTIONS:

-GAME: The opposing team can opt to play the game as 3v3, or 4v3, its their choice.

-SCRIMMAGE: If the game is a forfeit, the teams can opt to share players and have a friendly scrimmage.

Is There a Max Number of Goals That Can Be Scored In a Game?

YES, this is determined as a max 10 goal differential in a game. The purpose is to encourage good sportsmanship and to keep our Dragon Families unified through a positive community experience.

Will There Be Championship Games?

YES, the Top 2 teams in each Division will play for the Championship.

How Are The Top 2 Teams In Each Grade Division Determined?

The Top 2 Teams are determined at the end of the Season through a "highest points earned" system. Points are earned for each game played as Win=3points / Tie=1point / Loss=0points. If a team Forfeits a game as scheduled by DYS, it's a Loss and the opposing team will be awarded the Win. If two teams in a Grade Division have equal number of Win/Tie/Loss points at the end of the Season, the tie breaker is determined by calculating the total season goals scored for, minus the total season goals scored against, and the highest goal total will determine the Champion (example, Game 1 resulted in Team A Win 8 - Team B Loss 2, so that would be 8 goals minus 2 goals = 6 Goals for Team A).

Are Medals Awarded To The Players?

YES, Champions receive Gold Medals and all other Players receive Silver Medals.

What Size Soccer Ball Do I Need To Purchase?

PreK - 2nd graders need to bring a size 3 ball, and the 3rd graders need to bring a size 4 ball.

Are Shin Guards and Water Bottles Required?

YES.

How Many Coaches Per Team?

Up to 2 coaches max per team.

Will Practices, Skills Night and Games Be Played On Both Indoor and Outdoor Fields?

YES.

Refund Policy:

No Refunds on Uniforms or League Fees, unless approved by DYS on a case-by-case basis. DYS incurs significant time and expense to make the League a great experience for the Dragon community.
